Jakub Gawkowski (MA 2019) works as a curator at the Modern Art Department of the Muzeum Sztuki in Łódź. At the museum, he curates temporary exhibitions and co-curates the permanent display of the collection of 20th and 21st-century art. Before CEU, he also studied at the University of Warsaw and the University of Silesia in Katowice. Most recently, he curated Riga Notebook: Following the Lines of Wacław Szpakowski (with Inga Lāce) at the Muzeum Sztuki, an exhibition centered around the life and work of a Polish pioneer of geometric abstraction. Jakub’s essays, critical reviews, and interviews have appeared in exhibition catalogs and international magazines. He is a visiting lecturer at the Academy of Art in Szczecin.

“The time spent at CEU was a lesson that broadened my horizons greatly, and taught me how to explore, express, and critically discuss ideas. The environment of the university, and of the History Department, in particular, offered me multiple new ways of making sense of the past and the present. The experience was unique due to the countless inspiring conversations with people whom I was lucky to meet and spend time with. I consider the time at CEU as intellectually and academically formative, thanks to everything I have learned and unlearned inside and outside of the classroom.”
